I am an Auckland Gastroenterologist who
has a keen interest in both Inflammatory
Bowel Disease and endoscopy.
I have been practising privately since 1998,
and have accumulated extensive research
and clinical experience.
Upper GI endoscopy is a procedure using an
endoscope to diagnose and, in some cases, treat
problems of the upper digestive system, including
the oesophagus, stomach, duodenum and small
bowel.
COLONOSCOPY
The term “colonoscopy” means looking inside the
colon. This procedure also allows other instru-
ments to be passed through the colonoscope.
These may be used, for example, to painlessly
remove a suspicious-looking growth.
PILL CAPSULE ENDOSCOPY
Capsule Endoscopy is used to look for bleeding in
hidden areas in the small bowel. It is also useful for
tracking small bowel tumours and obscure abdomi-
nal pain. The procedure involves swallowing a
small capsule which is connected to a recording.
